Gear Considerations With Patch 2.4

A Dwarf Priest has another great post relating some great theorycrafting on the effects which patch 2.4 will have on our gear comparisons.

In summary, this is how they weighted Priest healing stats as they stand now:

1 mp5 = 0.35 spirit = 0.25 +heal = 0.2 int = 0.15 stam = 0.1 spell haste = 0.03 spell crit

And after 2.4:

1 mp5 = 0.64 spirit = 0.51 int = 0.19 +heal = 0.18 stam = 0.03 spell haste = 0.06 spell crit

This is what I get out of this:

With int now contributing to mana regen, it has replaced +heal as the #3 stat. This alone will cause a huge change in the way we will be evaluating gear. Also, with spirit and int doubling their weighting to a value over 0.5, both the +4 int and the +4 spirit gems now are worth more than +2 mp5 gems we have always been told to stack. In general mp5 has lost a lot of it’s sway. For example, here is an upgrade I’ve been considering which illustrates this nicely.

Here’s what I have now:

Primal Mooncloth Robe
With the +4 int/+9 healing and +2 mp5/+9 healing gems and the +3 int socket bonus the stats are:
12 mp5, 20 spirit, 27 int, 139 +healing, 0 stam, 0

Using Dwarf Priest’s weights:

2.3: 12 + (20 * .35) + (27 * .2) + (139 * .25) = 12 + 7 + 5.4 + 34.5 = 59.15
2.4: 12 + (20 * .64) + (27 * .51) + (139 * .19) = 12.8 + 13.77 + 5.4 + 26.41 = 58.38

And a robe I am aiming for:

Robes of Heavenly Purpose
With a +4 int/+9 healing gem and 2 +4 spirit/+9heaing gems the stats are:
0 mp5, 58 spirit, 27 int, 137 +healing, 21 stam

Weight calculations:

2.3: 0 + (58 * .35) + (27 * .2) + (137 * .25) + (21 * .15) = 20.3 + 5.4 + 34.25 + 3.15 = 63.1
2.4: 0 + (58 * .64) + (27 * .51) + (137 * .19) + (21 * .18) = 37.12 + 13.77 + 26.03 + 3.78 = 80.7

Now in 2.3 the 4 point increase between the two robes almost certainly isn’t enough to justify loosing the Primal Mooncloth set bonus. Now I’m generally pretty good with numbers but this type of extrapolation from data that is not exact is not my forte. That being said from what I can tell of their numbers the Primal Mooncloth set bonus would only add around 5 or 6 more points to this weighting which still isn’t enough to top the Heavenly Purpose robe. However, the set bonus alters the weighting calculation itself (makes 1 mp5 = ~0.70 spirit = ~0.56 int) which would then be applied to all gear comparisons made while this set was intact which would almost certainly overshadow the gain from this one piece even in 2.4.

Leave it to me to pick the one comparison which has such a huge secondary consideration….

It does illustrate the potential differences in gear weighting which the patch will bring though, especially if you ignore the PM set bonus.

  1. Big-calculations-hurt-little-scorpid-brain!! Arrggh! *clacky clacky* seriosuly though…. that’s really cool. I wish vix would bother doing the math to find the right gear to Max me out. but then, I’m already pretty badass. /strut

  2. Dwarf Priest also pointed me towards a site which ranks all available gear in the game by customizable weights such as the ones I’ve listed here. If you can find a relative weighting for Hunter stats like Agility, RAP, crit, etc you can just plug them in, set your class and armor type and you get a ranking of possible gear choices: http://www.lootrank.com
